Hives are tested and proven to work in all weather conditions (Finland’s harsh winter and hot summers). Higher insulation capability works in both cold and hot weather countries/areas keeping the hive warm during the cold winter and keeping the excess warmth out of the hive in hot temperatures. Honey Paw’s polystyrene beehive boxes are lightweight but designed to last for many years of use. Hive material density is over 100 kg / m3 which makes it by far the thickest on the market.
Bottom with mesh: Hive bottom with mesh. Provides a stable and healthy environment for the honeybees during the whole year. With this hive, the bottom is possible to use an integrated varroa tray. Made of expanded polystyrene with a density of 100 kg / m3. This makes the material durable and long-lasting.
Honey Paw hive bottom with mesh is supplied with either plastic or aluminium mesh. The bottom is the same size as the Honey Paw’s bee boxes and the entrance is made so that there is no need for entrance blocks or mouse guards. The bottom with mesh should be placed a little above of the ground (i.e. on a wooden pallet) so that there is an “open space” directly under the hive bottom. As an option, you can close the bottom opening by a separate closing board. The hive entrance should be blocked only when moving the hive or when splitting the beehive.
With the bottom is possible to use an integrated varroa board and eps board.
One can use extra eps board for the closing hive during oxalic acid treatment or give a little bit of extra insulation during spring.
Both extra boards are sold separately.

A multifunctional hive roof for dynamic and changing climate keeps the beehive warm, especially when wintering, and offers ventilation possibility when turned upside down.
Honey Paw beehive roof is 45 mm thick in the middle and that guarantees the hive stays warm no matter what. The roof has overhanging outside edges to provide protection against the weather. If you need to reduce the hive temperature, the roof can be turned upside down to form an exhaust tunnel for warm air.
